Integrated Housing Developments

To help meet the growing demand for housing the Council has acquired four large sites in the main towns in the County and has prepared integrated housing development proposals for each site. The proposal is to build 779 houses on the four sites totalling 130 acres at an estimated cost of €106m at Cherryorchard, Enniscorthy; Coolcotts, Wexford; Castlemoyle, New Ross and Creagh, Gorey. The schemes provide for a mix of residential types and tenures incorporating subsidised private sites, social housing, affordable housing, voluntary housing, sheltered accommodation and traveller accommodation. A primary aim of the schemes is to create streets and spaces that provide a sense of identity and pride, which will facilitate the development of community and individual well-being. The schemes will incorporate community facilities, amenity areas, sports facilities and play areas.

Public Art

The Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government Housing Budget makes provision for up to 1% of the overall construction cost of capital projects up to a ceiling of €63,486. Under the scheme the Council has commissioned art projects at Castlebridge, Rosslare Harbour, Fethard on Sea and Gorey.

Recent Completion

The 28 house scheme at Hospital Hill, Bunclody was completed and the keys were handed to the residents at a ceremony in Bunclody on Thursday 13th November 2003. Cllr Rory Murphy and Cllr Jack Bolger spoke to the tenants about the history of the area and the responsibilities that were required of them in the upkeep of their houses. The estate has been called Termonbarry (the church land of Barry) and the tenants were extremely impressed with their new homes which have been finished to the highest standard by the contractor Goff Developments.
