Wexford County Council Arts Department

The Arts Department is based in County Hall in Wexford town. The role of the Arts Department is to support the further development of the Arts in the county.

The staff within the Arts Department are:  

  • Sinead Redmond, County Arts Officer
  • Susan Murphy, Clerical Officer

Since the foundation of the Arts Department in 1994, Wexford County Council has developed a policy led approach to arts development. This development can be traced through

  • People, Time and Place: Wexford County Council’s Public Art Policy (adopted in 2008)
  • Ó Neart go Neart County Wexford Arts Plan 2005 - 2009
  • Arts Plan 2000 - 2004
  • Strategy Statement 1998 - 2001
  • Arts Policy Document 1995 - 1999

The Arts Department has a database of contacts which is emailed regularly with a range of information including funding, bursaries, local news etc.

The services of the Arts Department include:

  • Designing and delivering a broad based arts programme which facilitates arts development in the contexts of arts education, arts & health, community arts, youth arts and public art
  • Information dissemination
  • Advice & consultation supports for artists, arts organisations, individuals and community groups
  • Funding

Working in partnership with individuals, groups, organisations is central to the way in which the Arts Department operates.

To further enhance the promotion of the arts in the South East Region, the Arts Department became involved in the ArtLinks programme.  ArtLinks is a collaboration between five local authorities - Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Wicklow and Carlow County Councils, providing a range of career development services to arts practitioners aged over 18 years within the five-county area. ArtLinks is the largest online Arts Directory in the southeast of Ireland with over 1500+ members & an innovative Arts Resource Programme and Partnership developed for and by Creative Practitioners and County Arts Offices.
